On the continued initiative of European Games Developer Federation, the Nordic Game conference and Nordic Game Ventures, supported by the European Commission, some 50 game developers, researchers, eco-system builders and policy makers were gathered to provide input and suggest priorities for European policy on games industry.
i-Game was present at the Games Policy Summit II, moderated by Prof. Dr. Malte Behrmann, Rechtsanwalt, and led by Christina Tsita, UI/UX designer and Research associate at Information Technologies Institute (ITI), CERTH. Aris Tufexis from Open Impact, our partner in Rome, focused on the challenge to measuring culture driven impact, shared the project’s values and ecosystem, as well as insights on impact framework and policy aspects to further support cultural heritage, foster innovation, and promote digital inclusion.
Highlights of this summit refer to “discoverability” as a big issue in the game industry, the notion and the growing effect of influencers that have reshaped the sector, the central market failure of the gaming industry, and the impact of video games inspiring green habits. Overall, the Games Policy Summit II Recommendations focused on:
- Strengthen Technological, Artistic, and Operational Sovereignty in the European Games Industry
- Enhance Discoverability, Audience Development, and Market Integration for European Games
=> Recognise and Fund Games as Innovative, Cultural, and Civic Technologies,
=> Build and Support Pan-European Creative Ecosystems and Collaborative Networks
=> Streamline Public Funding, Defence Procurement and Policy Frameworks for Inclusive Growth
=> Invest in Early-Stage Innovation, Evidence-Based Learning, and Ethical Deployment
=> Foster Child-Centric, Rights-Based Digital Participation Policies
